Beautiful Weather
After literally 8 days of rain, it was nice to see that big, bright, orange thing in the sky today. It made things a little warmer then I would like for the middle of October, but I am not really complaining too much about it.

Nigel’s Baby Shower
Catherine, Paula, and my Mother-In-Law put together a great shower for Marcia this afternoon. I attended to take pictures and also see the unwrapping of the presents. It was a great time, and Nigel got a lot of great stuff.

The food was really good. Especially Yvonne’s chicken wings and here brownies. My Mother-In-Law also made some great chocolate chip cookies, along with some pork barbecue for dinner.

Some of the highlights of the presents were the hi-chair, stroller / car seat combo, the pack ‘n play, and a swing. Also, he got a lot of great and very cute clothes. The highlights of those (for me at least) were the Red Wings and Michigan St. shirts and socks. I will post some pictures later.

Thanks to all that gave us the wonderful presents and set up the great party.

Flyers 5, Islanders 1
I took my Dad to the Flyers game down at the Wachovia Center this evening. It was both of our first game back since the lock-out. Had a good time, and saw a very strong performance from the Flyers.

The Flyers jumped into the lead just over two minutes into the game. Michael “Zeus” Handzus got some great feeds from two teammates to have a basically open net in front of him. The Isles tied it up only a few minutes later on a power play goal from Mike York (Michigan St. grad). Then from there, the Isles disappeared and the Flyers totally dominated the game. By the end of the first period they were up 4-1.

Flyers’ Michael Handzus fights for position with the Islanders’ Brad Lukowich in front of goalie Garth Snow.

The Islanders took 16 penalties, and at one point gave the Flyers a 5-on-3 advantage for almost 2 and a half minutes. They were playing terrible, undisciplined hockey. The Flyers other goals came from Patrick Sharp, Simon Gagne (his 7th of the season already!), Kim Johnsson, and Handzus’ second of the night.

Also, I am sure those of you that have watched sporting events lately know what Thunderstix are. They got popular here in the States (used by baseball teams in Japan) during the Anaheim Angels World Series winning season. Well, my Dad and I were sitting in the family section of the arena. And they handed out free Thunderstix to everyone who wanted them. And there were a lot of kids. Do you realize how loud these things are?! These kids didn’t care if the Flyers scored a goal, or were called for a penalty, or if it was a TV time out, they were banging these things. Thankfully the novelty wore off as the game went on.

Another Great Hangs ‘Em Up
Brett Hull has decided to retire. Somewhat of a shock to hear this now. He started the season and even decided to wear his father Bobby’s number 9 this season. But he felt very sub-par after losing a season. You can read the ARTICLE.

As much as I hated Brett’s attitude sometimes, he still played with a ferocity that I could respect. His attitude also changed later in his career, and it became known that he felt the game needed to change. Ironically when it did, and the way he wanted it to, he was too far along in his career to enjoy it.

Brett is one of two NHL players that share my birthday of August 9th. Rod Brind’Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes is the other.
