Over the last few days, I have tried two beers that are new to me. Though neither of the brewers are new to me.

Unibroue Blanche De Chambly
THIS beer is a white beer. For those that have some knowledge, but don’t know exactly, this is like Hoegaarden. Not quite as good, but still very delicious. White beer is usually opaque, even though it is very light in color.

Dogfish Head Punkin’ Ale
As the name would suggest, THIS beer is pumpkin flavored. It has a lot of spices to it, which are literally...

The Wizard of Oz wears the Winged Wheel again!

The Red Wings won the second of three games in a row against the Chicago Blackhawks. It was their eighth straight win in this young season. Again, they looked shakey at times. Even getting down 2-1 early in the second period. But they did what they do best. Keeping at it and wearing down a weaker opponent. Though no thanks to Nikolai “The Bulin Wall” Khabibulin. He played great despite losing.

Chris Osgood makes one of his 23 saves in his re-debut with the Red Wings.

Speaking of goalies playing great, Chris Osgood didn’t play bad...

But not with Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor or Al Borland.

I helped my brother-in-law Rick yesterday with some home improvement tasks. One, the last of the two that we did, was something very easy. That was trimming the tree out front of their house. I had done this quite a few times when I had a house. I had even ripped up shrubs and other living plants, as well as a whole tree. So that was nothing new.

But the first task was one that scared me. Replacing the storm back door. I had never done something like this. And if you don’t get the thing square, it can turn out awful. Rick had never done this before either, so it had me even more nervous.

So how did it turn out? Great! I...

Welcome to the New NHL!

The Flyers’ special teams has been struggling, and finally last night they got the power play clicking with three goals out of the first five. They seemed to be taking control of the game as the second period ended. Though the Canes were keeping up to a point, they were still looking a little sluggish compared to the Flyers.

Hurricanes’ Matt Cullen celebrates what became the game winning goal.

So what happened to the Flyers’ 5-3 lead in the third period. It went the way of the dodo, and faster then Don Cherry can get into an argument over players wearing...

I didn’t watch a lot of either game, but got enough. I was a little busy writing a short story. Yes, you read that correctly. I got an idea for one and started writing. I am also writing one with David. Just an experiment. Anyway … onto the hockey.

Red Wings 5, Blackhawks 2
Mathieu Schneider scored with about 6 minutes left in the third period to give the Wings a 3-2 lead. It then opened the flood gates.

Draper scores late in the third after the puck made a strange deflection off the boards.

Blackhawk goalie Khabibulin (pronounced HOBBY-BOO-LIN...

The White Sox, who were appearing in their first World Series since 1959, and haven’t won the World Series since 1917, completed their sweep of the Houston Astros last night.

The White Sox celebrate their World Championship last night after winning 1-0.

So last year the Red Sox ended their huge string of futility, and now the White Sox have done it. Are the Chicago Cubs next? I am sure that is what those north side Chicago fans are hoping. They haven’t won the World Series since 1908, and they haven’t been to a World Series since 1945. Those are still the current longest streaks, even longer then both the...

After having some busy weeknights and busy weekends, I finally finished another book. (I know David, you are swearing at me right now.) Last night it was “The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, translated by Lucia Graves.

First, a quick description of the book, thanks to Amazon.Com and Publishers Weekly.

The time is the 1950s; the place, Barcelona. Daniel Sempere, the son of a widowed bookstore owner, is 10 when he discovers a novel, “The Shadow of the Wind”, by Julián Carax. The novel is rare, the author obscure, and rumors tell of a horribly disfigured man who has been burning...

The Wings’ special teams won this game for them. Midway through the second period, with the score tied at 1-1, the Wings took some penalties that resulted in over 2 minutes of a 5-on-3 for the Blue Jackets. The Wings shut them down. The Jackets then had a one-man advantage, but was interupted by taking a penalty, making it a 4-on-4. The Wings then scored just before their last penalty expired, giving them a 2-1 lead, and with a power play yet to come. They then scored on that power play.

The Jackets came back with one. Then Jackets’ Steven Goertzen took a 5 minute major for a boarding call on Andreas Lilja, who looked to severly injure his right knee on the play. Halfway through the power play the Wings scored, and...
