With another trip to the Blue Dog Pub last week, I picked up two more beers that I wanted to try. They have a huge cooler, and about a quarter of it is dedicated to brews that you can buy just a single bottle.
Petrus Old Brown Ale
It says on the label, which is why I bought it, that the beer is aged for two years in oak casks. And you can taste it. It has a combination taste to me, like brown ale and a fruity lambic. This was actually the second time I bought a bottle of this, and will be buying more in the future.
Chapeau Kriek
From what I understand, there are three more famous brewers of lambic in Belgium. Chapeau is one of them (along with Lindman’s and Belle-Vue). And since I have found that I like the cherry (kriek) lambics best, I went with it here. It was more tart and sour then Belle-Vue, though it had more body like Belle-Vue as opposed to Lindman’s. I have been slowly going through a half case of Belle-Vue since my birthday and this is proof to me that I like it better then the others.

Oh… the Lambic smelled like a cherry slurpee. It smelled good. Of course all I do now a days is “smell” interesting beers.

Scott do you keep a log of all the beers you have tried. They total might even rival your cd collection

I am not quite that far with different beers. But this web site is one way to track them. I need to create a category for them though and log them in it.

I’m thinking that you need to start a B & B club…. and that would be a Book and Beer Club. You could select a book that everyone who would want to be a member would have to read and a beer to try. Only problem is people not being in the same place who might not be able to find the right beer. (I wonder if USP would be able to ship beer?????????)

Excellent idea!! (Need to talk to David about this.)
Yes Jenn, you can ship beer. David’s brother Brian was trying to put together a “beer it forward” project and he checked into that.

Of course!
By the way, have you read “Pastwatch” or “Neverwhere” yet?

I am almost done with “Pastwatch”… and have started “Jennifer Government”…it’s a pretty good book.

Yes you can ship beer….carefully. It is not exactly legal.
It is a great idea. Even if the book and beer had some flexiblity to it. For example, instead of an exact beer, it could be a style (stout, IPA, barleywine, etc).
I think it would be cool to get together like a book club and disuss – only instead of tea and cookies, we would have – well – beer

[...] You can read my POST about it. I really like it, considering that I like brown ales as well as beers with sweeter, fruitier tastes. One interesting comment came from Shannon. She said it had a hint of a whiskey taste to it, which I am sure came from the aging for two years in oak casks. [...]

[...] sour ale. It is the replacement of sorts of the Old Brown Ale they used to have, which I have HAD a couple of times. The best way to describe it is think of a brown ale with a bit of a fruit flavor [...]
