It’s a Girl! “Red” by Ted Dekker

Last night I watched a BBC broadcast mini-series version of “Neverwhere”, based on Neil Gaiman’s BOOK. Gaiman was involved in the production, not only writing the script.

I had heard about this a while back from David. And I have to say that I was a little worried about it, but also looking forward to it. I think this would make an excellent movie. But as always, you fear that such a GREAT BOOK will be ruined by HOLLYWOOD.

Probably the saving grace to this was Gaiman’s direct involvement. It turned out to be very enjoyable, even if the production value was lacking. I thought their choices for who played the characters was good. The only hiccups to that was Gary Bakewell as Richard Mayhew not be as squirrelly or prim and proper as I pictured him. And Mr. Croup (Hywel Bennett) and Mr. Vandemar (Clive Russell) were older then I pictured them, but still good choices. I think they were to me the biggest surprise on how well their performance was. Though also to be noted was Paterson Joseph as the Marquis De Carabas. I also think that Peter Capaldi playing the Angel Islington was a good choice based mostly on his looks and how they did his hair.

Even if you have not read the book, if you have a Netflix account or rent DVD’s/videos from somewhere that carries it, it is worth watching. It is adventure, thriller, and comedy all wrapped up into one. Though I REALLY recommend reading the book first. (It has also been made into a COMIC BOOK recently, too.)
