So I finally got to watch a “real” hockey game last night. Or at least part of one. It was the Flyers first televised pre-season game which the beat the New Jersey Devils, 3-2.
As much as I wanted to just watch the game, I really took note of what the players were doing with the new rules. I wanted to see how these new obstruction penalties were going to be called. What I saw was players letting up and backing down when heading into the zone or chasing the puck. Obviously still trying to adjust to less aggressive tactics. Normally you would see two guys jostle each other heading to the corner and/or the puck.
There were a few penalties that looked strange. Meaning they are now obstruction penalties. Most...

Weather Report - “Black Market”

Tracks:
- Black Market
- Cannon Ball
- Gibraltar
- Elegant People
- Three Clowns
- Barbary Coast
- Herandnu
I know that most Weather Report fans, or even just fans of fusion, would probably pick “Heavy Weather” over this one. But I had this one long before I had heard “HW”. And it has just stuck with me over the years.
The picture below was featured on the back side of the album cover. Alphonso Johnson had actually started recording the album as the band’s bass player. After...

Those who know me, know I usually don’t discuss politics. They usually just upset me. And quite honestly, I don’t always understand what is going on. So why look stupid and get upset at the same time while trying to talk with friends or family?
Also, those that know me, know I usually straddle the fence. I never voted for a Democratic candidate for the US Presidency until 2004. Though I voted for Perot once, and two other times voted for other “third party” candidates. I don’t consider myself either a Democrat or a Republican. Just a concerned citizen of the USA that tries to vote for the idiot that I think will do the least amount of damage. OK, so there was some sarcasm there.
Anyway,...

The Beer and Book Club
Thanks to my sister Jenn’s idea, and David and I modifying it a little, I am trying to gather some folks to make this a reality. It is for those of us that like trying different beers and also like to read. Each month we would pick a book to read, and at the end of the month get together at someone’s house. We discuss the book, but also the host would provide a new and/or different beer for us to drink.
And my apologies to Jenn, for not being able to take part. After all, 10 hours is a long way to drive for a book club. (Maybe I can send you a beer though.)
House, MD
Another great episode of “House,...

Excuse me, but they have totally ticked me off!
They still, after TWO PHONE CALLS, have not refunded me the money for the CPU I returned to them. And by the way, this was the second processor that didn’t seem to work from them. Which they admitted to me just now on the phone that they do handle and could have damaged themselves.
I was also informed that even with my VERY LOW confidence in my computer that is not running well, which I bought from them, I CAN NOT return it to them. I have to work with their tech support. So now I am stuck with this piece of CRAP!

Datsyuk has resigned with the Detroit Red Wings!!
There were RUMORS floating around about it happening now for a couple of weeks. This ARTICLE, courtesy of Yahoo Sports however, substantiates it.
Now Hockeytown can breathe a sigh of relief.

So most of us know, that the NHL is now going to be on NBC as a national big four network. ESPN’s contract was actually a dual contract for those national games on ABC (who both Disney owns). So here is the logo.

Not bad. I like the Stanley Cup image in it.

This afternoon I finished “The Girl in the Glass” by Jeffrey Ford. This was the second novel by Ford that I have read this summer.

Being as lazy as ever, here is the rundown courtesy of Amazon.Com and Publishers Weekly, with some tweaks by yours truly:
A band of con artists-cum-spiritual mediums focus their psychic and sleuthing powers on a murder mystery …… set in Depression-era Long Island, on the posh North Shore. Diego, a 17-year-old Mexican illegal immigrant, narrates the escapades, as he follows his mentor and surrogate father Thomas Schell, who rescued him from the street and tutored...
