Don’t hang “19″ from the rafters of the Joe yet!

According to this quick little BLURB from the Detroit Free Press web site, Steve Yzerman will return to the Detroit Red Wings for one more year.

I am sure I’m not the only Wings fan that is estatic about this. It would be shame to see Stevie’s final moments of NHL hockey be the bonecrushing puck he took to the face and the bloody mess it left during the playoffs against Calgary. Red Wings loss is Flyers gain.

The Philadelphia Flyers (my “other” hockey team) signed recently departed Detroit Red Wing and Sterling Heights native Derian Hatcher today. Along with Hatcher, they also signed Mike Rathje, brought back Chris Therien (all three are big defensemen), and re-signed winger Jon Sim. You can read the ARTICLE from TSN.

This is a big move for a couple of reasons. The Flyers were already looking quite good roster wise after releasing John LeClair and Tony Amonte, then signing Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. But the one thing that the Flyers were missing was a big, bruising, North American style defensemen. Now...

Here is something cute and interesting at the same time. An ARTICLE from MSNBC talks about the exploits of Jake the Golden Retreiver who swam in the 10th Annual South End Rowing Club Alcatraz Invitational. He finished 72nd out of 500 swimmers!

It is a few days before my birthday and I have already gotten a couple of gifts.

First, from Mike (whose birthday is today), a bottle of Rogue’s Old Crustacean Barleywine.

Then from Marcia last night, an addition to my growing watch collection. (It’s like the stereotypical woman and shoes.) This year it was a Peugeot 136BK.

Last night Marcia and I finished watching the first season of “The Kids in the Hall”, a four disc set. It includes all 20 episodes, interviews with the cast about the forming of the troupe, the pilot episode, and some taped sketches from their early days at the Rivoli Theater.

For those that don’t know, “The Kids in the Hall” was a comedy sketch show along the lines of Saturday Night Live. As a matter of fact, Lorne Michaels of SNL fame was the executive producer of the show, too. They started as a comedy troupe in Toronto, then were discovered. The gang includes...
