The “new” NHL has instituted a division/rivalry heavy schedule.
The “home-and-home” series seemed to be a thing of the past. But it has returned to the NHL, and it is wreaking a vengeance on the Wings. They have EIGHT on their schedule. One of those is actually a home-and-home-and-home with the Blackhawks in late October and early November. They even OPEN the season with a home-and-home with St. Louis. To top it off, they have a home-and-home with Nashville in early February, but the game before and the game after is a “pseudo” home-and-home with the Avalanche. Boy, this should be fun.
For the record, the Flyers only have one home-and-home series during the season. Yet they have a stretch of 11 games on the road from Dec. 23 to Jan. 12.

’cause I don’t know. What is a “home-and-home” series?

A home-and-home is where two teams play two games in a row against each other during the season, with each team getting a home game. It usually would happen on consecutive nights, but more recently there has been a day-off inbetween to make travel easier.
