My friend David POSTED about Jeremy Roenick’s recent rant. He posted the link where he saw the article on the internet. His reaction to JR’s comments are probably what most felt after reading them. Can’t blame anyone either for feeling that way. The shame of it is that the article only has the ending of JR’s comments where he goes on about fans blaming the players for the lockout. The media should be ashamed at themselves for this.
I am too tired and busy with work to continue the search for the rest of his comments. Though I posted a couple of links in the comments section.
Again, given the lack of the full article, I don’t blame people for wanting to say SHUT UP! I, too, feel that players get paid WAY TOO MUCH and then there are those athletes that complain they are not paid enough. Heck, if I had only read the ending of his comments, it would have made me reconsider JR. I happen to like the guy. He brings his emotions with him on the ice, always works hard, doesn’t beat around the bush, and can be a great asset to the game. (I was pissed when the Flyers signed him, hoping the Wings would get him.) But he let his feelings get the best of him. He should have checked himself a bit. But that’s life.
I know there are a lot of fans out there that are livid at JR’s remarks. I think it was just frustration on his part. He shouldn’t have said what he did, because the NHL will need every fan they can get. The numbers are dwindling. But I can’t blame him for feeling the way he does. After all, the owners were the one that locked out the players. This was not a players strike. JR was pushing the players’ union to sign the deal the owners made trying to save the season back in January/February. And JR’s earlier comments during the lock-out seem to come from someone that was willing to cross the line and play.
This will probably pass, and the league itself will probably not be too hurt by JR’s comments. There was much more hurt laid out by the canceling of the 2004-2005 season. If anything, Jeremy might have lost a few fans himself and nothing more.
