It has been a few months since Marcia and I have headed over to Pinball Parlour. For a time there we were going every Wednesday. Then after my surgery we didn’t do much of anything for a while. But now that we have gotten settled in with the move, and live closer to Pinball Parlour, we decided to head over there last night. And for the record, I played terrible. Very rusty. Still fun though.

We went out to eat at the local Applebee’s before. I am not a big fan of going and sitting down there or at places like them (TGI Fridays, Chili’s, etc.). They get so crowded and fast. But we got there early enough and got seated right away. The one thing I have always liked...

A funny, but very cool thing happened this weekend.

Marcia and I were in a Barnes & Noble on Saturday afternoon buying a book that we didn’t want to wait for from amazon.com, or find cheaper elsewhere. As we are standing in line to pay, we come across the bargain table. I noticed quite a few copies in hardback of book four of the “Otherland” series by Tad Williams. I knew David had all four books in the series, but one was a book club edition that he wanted to replace with a publisher hardback copy. So we gave him a call, and sure enough it was the fourth book he was looking for. And it was only $6.

Then on Monday evening, David calls me from a book store in Delaware. He had come across hardback...

French Open champion Justine Henin-Hardenne has lost her first round match to Eleni Daniilidou of Greece, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2, 7-5. Now this IS a major upset. I had been reading how some thought that she could go all the way this year. She had made the finals at Wimbledon in 2001, but now had a much better game, especially her forehand. I can’t believe she lost in the first round. Oh well. I am sure she will win Wimbledon eventually and won’t turn into the female version of Ivan Lendl.

Another upset was almost in the making. Lovable loser and England’s own Tim Henman had to fight back from two sets down to advance to the second round. He beat Jarkko Nieminen of Finland, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2....

So far the first round has not seen any MAJOR upsets. Many players have their first round match today. But there were a few seeded players that lost their first round match yesterday. The most poignant was probably Mariano Puerta of Argentina, seeded 16th in the tourney, ranked 9th in the World. He had a typical Wimbledon outing for a French Open finalist. On the women’s side, 10th seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland lost her first round match.

On Saturday night, Marcia and I watched the highly acclaimed movie “The Aviator”, which features the Oscar nominated performance by Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, and the Oscar nominated direction of Martin Scorsese. Of course they were both bested by Cate Blanchett, who won the Best Supporting Actress with her performance as Katherine Hepburn.

First and foremost, let me mention that neither Marcia nor I are big fans of Leonardo DiCaprio. I will admit that he is a good actor. I just always thought that there was too much hype surrounding him. Even with that, Marcia and I thought he did a good job and enjoyed the movie. The only problem...

I would like to wish all those fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day. There are a few that I know. First there is my brother Brian celebrating his first. My brother-in-law Rick is celebrating his first as well. Then my friend and soon-to-be brother-in-law David. My Uncle Len and Uncle Steve. My Grandpa Fab. Also, my brother Todd, who like me is a father-to-be. And last, but most important, my own father, Richard. Hope all of you have a great day!

Speaking of father-to-be, Marcia bought me a Father’s Day present. It was a Magic Hat pub glass. They are a great brewery is Vermont, and one of my favorite (along with Victory and Fool...

Last night Marcia and I had dinner with some of the members of St. Paul’s choir and Pastor Karl as an “end of the choir season” celebration. Though Marcia is no longer an employee of the church, I kept singing with them through the end of the season. It was also the first time that Marcia has faced Pastor and members of the church since the events of early January.

We had a very good time, and everyone that was there was excited to see Marcia and see how well she was doing. Especially Pastor Karl’s wife Pastor Leslie, who is totally geeked about Marcia’s pregnancy.

We had dinner at The Perk, formerly (many, many moons ago) the South Perkasie...

Been listening to King’s X a lot lately. Been pretty much it for the past two weeks. They came out of the Christian heavy metal / hard rock scene in Houston in the late 80’s. (Though none of the members are Houston natives.) Their songs are not heavy on Christian themes though. The band is Doug Pinnick (bass & vocals), Ty Tabor (guitar & vocals), and Jerry Gaskill (drums & vocals). All three can sing and they do harmonize from time to time.

They have 10 studio albums, I have 9 of them, but I have only really been listening to the following:

“Gretchen Goes to Nebraska”

Given the computer problem and not being able to upload pictures, I am going to lump a few movies together here.

“Willow”
Watched this two weeks ago. Or I should say, watched half of it. I had saw it in bits and pieces over the years on cable, but never saw it from beginning to end.

So what’s it about? It was George Lucas’ attempt at more traditional fantasy after “Star Wars”. Willow lives with his fellow dwarves in their quiet village. One day a human baby washes ashore. Though they don’t know yet, but this baby was saved from death by a midwife, and has the mark of the prophecy to end the evil queen’s reign. So the village decrees that Willow must...

Freedom win again!!

Also notice how I have moved out of last place and up into 10th.

That makes two win in the last three weeks. Hopefully it’s a continuing trend. The top 4 teams qualify for the playoffs, and I am only 4 back from third place. It may be too much to actually get there. But I do have a shot.

I also noticed that my teams has given up the most points. Or more correctly, my opponents have scored the most points when matched up against me. So that means by odds I have been facing teams on some of their better and/or best weeks. That’s just bad luck. Of course it wouldn’t translate into many more wins, but maybe a couple more.
