There will be no super long-shot upset winner in either the men’s or women’s championships this year at Wimbledon. We are down to the quarterfinals and only have seeded players left.
Womens’
Lindsay Davenport USA (1) (1999 Wimbledon Champ) v. Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (5)
Amelie Mauresmo FRA (3) v. Anastasia Myskina RUS (9)
Mary Pierce FRA (12) v. Venus Williams USA (14) (2000 & 2001 Wimbledon Champ)
Nadia Petrova RUS (8) v. Maria Sharapova RUS (2) (2004 Wimbledon Champ)
It seems rather obvious that Davenport and Sharapova will meet in the finals. But I think if Sharapova gets to the semis, she is going to have a real dog fight with either Venus or Mary Pierce. And why do I have this feeling that Pierce might win it this year?
Mens’
Roger Federer SUI (1) (2003 & 2004 Wimbledon Champ) v. Fernando Gonzalez CHI (21)
Lleyton Hewitt AUS (3) (2002 Wimbledon Champ) v. Feliciano Lopez ESP (26)
Thomas Johansson SWE (12) v. David Nalbandian ARG (18)
Andy Roddick USA (2) v. Sebastien Grosjean FRA (9)
Some things of interest to me: Nalbandian lost to Hewitt in the 2002 finals. They could possibly meet up again in the finals this year. Also, Roddick is looking for his second straight final appearance, and faces Grosjean who is looking for his third straight trip to the semi-finals. I have a feeling that Roddick won’t make it to the finals. And that the highlight match will be Federer and Hewitt in the semis, with the winner going on to win in the finals.
[ UPDATED !! ]
Here are the scores of the womens’ quarterfinal matches.
Davenport d. Kuznetsova, 7-6 (1), 6-3
Sharapova d. Petrova, 7-6 (6), 6-3
Mauresmo d. Myskina, 6-3, 6-4
Williams d. Pierce, 6-0, 7-6 (10)

That ought to be fun to see. ; )
Well, no worries Karen. Venus won in straight sets.

Well at least I wont have to send my neighbours into shock now!
Venus played well, but I just do not rate Mary Pierce as a player, she lets her nerves get the better of her constantly. She’s not mentally tough enough.
I’m looking forward to Venus and Maria Sharapova’s semi-final match. I think Sharapova will win, but if Venus of old comes out to play, you just never know.
As for Roddick not making the finals, I bet you he does! I’ve seen Grosjean play, and he’s more erratic than Roddick!
