I made sure I didn’t sleep in this morning for too long so I could watch the women’s French Open championship match. It turned out to be a quick roll over. Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne won her second French Open 6-1, 6-1 over French/American Mary Pierce.
The first set only took 28 minutes as Pierce won the first game, then proceeded to help beat herself. It wasn’t that Henin-Hardenne was not playing well. She was obviously in top form again. But Pierce made it easy and quick work, flubbing many would-be winners in the net or out. Pierce only managed to win two points on Henin-Hardenne’s serve, and she allowed herself to be broke three times in a row, even double faulting the set away.
