The top three seeds on both the mens’ and womens’ side advance to the semifinals. Going to make for some good tennis. The men finished their quarterfinal matches this afternoon. Three of the four matches as you can see were in straight sets. Only Andy Roddick had a real battle going. Thanks to Wimbledon.Org and their real-time scoring, I got to check up on the matches throughout the day to see what was happening.
Here are the scores:
Federer d. Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 (2)
Roddick d. Grosjean, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3
Hewitt d. Lopez, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (2)
Johansson d. Nalbandian, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 6-2

Last night Marcia’s sister Catherine came over and brought along a movie. It was “The Life Aquatic” starring Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. I had seen previews of it, a trailer in the theater, and heard and read a few reviews. It did not look like something that would interest me. It looked dumb. It was trashed by critics. Glad I watched it though.

This is another movie that is to be partially chalked up to critics being over zealous. The other part is that you may just not like this type of movie. If you enjoyed “The Royal Tenenbaums”, then do yourself a favor and rent this. It is from the same co-writer and director,...

There will be no super long-shot upset winner in either the men’s or women’s championships this year at Wimbledon. We are down to the quarterfinals and only have seeded players left.
Womens’
Lindsay Davenport USA (1) (1999 Wimbledon Champ) v. Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS (5)
Amelie Mauresmo FRA (3) v. Anastasia Myskina RUS (9)
Mary Pierce FRA (12) v. Venus Williams USA (14) (2000 & 2001 Wimbledon Champ)
Nadia Petrova RUS (8) v. Maria Sharapova RUS (2) (2004 Wimbledon Champ)
It seems rather obvious that Davenport and Sharapova will meet in the finals. But I think if Sharapova gets to the semis, she is going to have a real dog fight with either Venus or Mary Pierce. And why do I have...

The past two weeks the AFL has been playing Week 13. It is what they call a split round, meaning that every team gets one of the two weeks off. So it took me two weeks to lose one game. Guess that is an improvement of sorts.
My team though is 2-2 in the last four weeks, which is an improvement over losing 8 in a row. This week though should be better. I have three new players due to the waiver draft. And all of them would have out scored my best player. One of them would be the second highest scorer in our fantasy league had he been taken and used every week. So the new players are Daniel Cross of the Western Bulldogs,...

To finish off the big movie weekend for Marcia and I, we finished watching “Troy” last night. This is the famous movie flop (from what I heard) based on Homer’s “The Iliad” about the fall of Troy.

I have never read the “The Iliad”, and I am sure I wouldn’t understand anyway. Though I am familiar with some of the story. Some of you may know it, too. But for the heck of it, I will go through it quickly.
In the year 1193 B.C., Trojan princes Hector and Paris treat with Menelaus, the king of Sparta. Sparta is one of the united kingdoms of Mycenae Greece. When they leave, Menelaus’ wife Helen,...

Yesterday afternoon, Marcia and myself, along with our friend Andy, saw “Batman Begins”. This is the latest movie of the “Caped Crusader” to hit the big screen.

First and foremost to know is that I have not read the comic books. My only knowledge of Batman comes from Adam West, and the other movies. That’s how it was when I saw the first movie starring Michael Keaton as Batman. I really enjoyed that movie. Tim Burton went with a more realistic (at the time) feel to it. The second movie was good, too. After that, it went downhill. Part of that in my opinion was letting Keaton go. Other feel it was letting Joel...

Last night Marcia and I watched “Zoolander”, thanks to Netflix. This stars a group of actors that keep appearing in the same movies together, and have come to be known as the “frat pack.” It started with Ben Stiller, Luke and Owen Wilson, and Vince Vaughn. Though the group has grown to include Will Ferrell, and lately Christine Taylor.

The story centers around Derek Zoolander (Stiller), an airheaded, male supermodel. He has won three “Male Model of the Year” awards, and loses his bid for four in a row to the newest and hottest model on the scene, Hansel (Owen Wilson). Then the following day, his three roommates...

The seeded players continue to roll at the All-England Club. The only men’s seed to lose was Marat Safin a couple of days ago. Safin is the reigning Australian Open champ. As for the women, the only seeded players to get knocked out have been by higher seeded players. Some interesting matches though are coming. Kim Clijsters who is playing very well since coming back from an extended injury will be setting up against number one seeded and ranked LindsayDavenport in the next round. We also could see the Williams sisters squaring off against each other in the 4th round.
I watched a bit of Andy Roddick’s 3rd round match, and he looked pretty good. Won the first two sets 6-2. But then he got a little sloppy and almost...

Last night I stayed up to watch Game 7 of the NBA Finals, hoping my hometown Pistons could win back-to-back titles. But it was not to be. The Spurs were just too good, though the game was close for a while.
Congrats to the San Antonio Spurs on winning their 3rd NBA Championship in 7 years.

This time it’s the men’s French Open champ and England’s lovable loser.
Rafael Nadal was beat by Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was pretty well known, as it has been for years, that clay specialists win the French Open and little else on the men’s side. Since 1982, only Andre Agassi has won other Grand Slam events along with the French Open. Nadal even said he didn’t expect to win Wimbledon this year, knowing his grass game was weak. Still an upset to not see him at least get to the quarters.
As for Tim Henman, he lost to Dmitry Tursunov of Russia, 3-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 8-6. Again, it’s a shame to realize that Henman may never win Wimbledon. He has played well in the...
