Tonight I got a rare treat. Brian Moore, of Fool Circle homebrew fame, gave me a bottle of his Hunting Macrae Scottish Heavy Ale as a present for my upcoming fatherhood. Given the weather (cold and brisk …… I can’t believe it’s late May!), and the fact that Marcia and I were having steak, I decided to finally drink it.
For those that don’t know, I have had many a beer in my lifetime. And I have sought out the best. Many Belgium beers, too. Brian’s homebrew Scottish heavy literally ranks as one of my top five favorites. It is that good! The particular bottle he gave me was from his 66th batch of beer (5th of Hunting Macrae), brewed in 2004. He entered the beer from this batch in the B3 Homebrew Competition and it took first place in the “Old Ale” category. It is one of many awards Brian has won.
And speaking of awards, recently Brian won some more. His buddy Mike asked for Brian’s help to brew a beer, and they came up with Red Card Pale Ale (Mike is a soccer fan). Brian, unknown to Mike, entered it in a contest, and it recently took “Best in Show” at the Buzz Off brew competition. Congrats guys!!

Don’t these things all taste the same? Is that like a bad thing to ask? (grin)
