Opening day at Roland Garros and already a major victim claimed by an upset. Defending French Open champ Anastasia Myskina, the 5th seed of the tournament, lost to Spain’s Maria Sanchez Lorenzo 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in their first round match-up. That is the first time in the tourney’s history. Just last year both defending champs, Justine Henin-Hardenne and Juan Carlos Ferrero, went down in the second round. Ah, the wonders of playing on clay.

For the life in me, I can’t understand how Myskina won this championship last year, have ya seen her play? Her serve must be the slowest serve in the history of serves!!
I hear she’s got a lot of personal issues, hence the loss.
And BTW, Budweiser rocks, at least I can drink it without upchucking at 5am in the morning!!

Yeah, most of this wave of Russian women have weak serves. Except for Sharapova. That’s why she won Wimbledon. But I have come to realize that the French Open is the great equalizer. Look at the past champs of the other 3 “Slams”, then look at the French. There are quite a few players that have only won the French, and a lot that have won the other 3 but not the French.
