Tonight I got a rare treat. Brian Moore, of Fool Circle homebrew fame, gave me a bottle of his Hunting Macrae Scottish Heavy Ale as a present for my upcoming fatherhood. Given the weather (cold and brisk …… I can’t believe it’s late May!), and the fact that Marcia and I were having steak, I decided to finally drink it.

For those that don’t know, I have had many a beer in my lifetime. And I have sought out the best. Many Belgium beers, too. Opening day at Roland Garros and already a major victim claimed by an upset. Defending French Open champ Anastasia Myskina, the 5th seed of the tournament, lost to Spain’s Maria Sanchez Lorenzo 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in their first round match-up. That is the first time in the tourney’s history. Just last year both defending champs, Justine Henin-Hardenne and Juan Carlos Ferrero, went down in the second round. Ah, the wonders of playing on clay.
