This evening I finished a very long titled baseball novel of fiction. It was written by Robert Coover and published in 1968.

The basis of the story is somewhat simple, and something that I can identify with. J. Henry Waugh has a fantasy baseball league. I used to play Strat-O-Matic with a friend, and we went overboard with things sometimes. And even now I have been in some fantasy leagues (like the Aussie Rules league). But Henry’s goes much further.

In this ARTICLE from ESPN.Com, it appears that the NHL won’t be looking to use replacement players if they can’t reach an agreement with the union. I didn’t think they would actually pursue it, considering the strict laws in Canada that do not allow any business to use replacement employees where a union is concerned. This also could further push the NHL to the brink of extinction.
