Marcia and I watched “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” just this evening.

What a great movie!! When I had seen the trailers when it was out in theaters, I liked the concept and the cast (Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Rip Torn). But never did I think it was going to be as entertaining as it was. There are a lot of laughs, some crude, but very, very funny.

The basis is Vaughn plays Peter LaFleur who owns Average Joe’s Gym and is about to be be foreclosed. The buyer is Stiller’s character White Goodman who owns Globo Gym. But all Peter needs is $50,000 to save the gym. And how do they think they can get the money? By entering...

I finished reading “The Knight” by Gene Wolfe yesterday afternoon. OK, to be more honest, I quit reading it yesterday afternoon. I had a little over 30 pages left, but gave up.

This was highly recommended on a forum that I hang out at for sci-fi and fantasy. And it was highly recommended on other web sites. Even Neil Gaiman (a favorite author of mine) raved about this book, and the sequel. This is book one of a duology called “The Wizard Knight”. Guess what the second book is called?

Now it is not terrible. For me to stick with a book for almost 400 pages and give up near the end is a statement that it was not terrible....

Look at this ARTICLE.

WHAT THE …………!!!!

First of, message to the NHL. You need to sign a CBA with the union before you worry about changing the game. I think many a fan are going to be pissed to hear about this. I know I am. The game may need a few improvements, but don’t you think you should start by bringing back the tag-up rule, then also dump the red line? Those are more minor adjustments that will speed up the game. We don’t necessarily need more scoring. Defensive hockey can still be exciting. But to make the nets bigger, and the ridiculous idea of bowing the posts, get real! You have already destroyed...

And not to mean that I miss home. I am staying home from work because I am sick. My mother-in-law, and both my sister-in-laws were sick recently. Some kind of stomach bug. Looks like I got it now. YUCK!!

Just trying to feel better about the game I love during this dark time with the NHL lockout.

From Brett Hull:
“I’m not dumb enough to be a goalie.”

From Steve Rushin:
“By the age of 18, the average American has witnessed 200,000 acts of violence on television, most of them occurring during Game 1 of the NHL playoff series.”

From Jacques Plante, on being a goalie:
“How would you like a job where, every time you make a mistake, a big red light goes on and 18,000 people boo?”

From Brian Skrudland, on the new two-referee system:
“I...

I only got 1 out of 4 correct. Like I thought I would really do any better. Just for the record, these were my predictions again:

East Regional: Boston College
West Regional: Ohio St. (There has to be an upset somewhere.)
MidWest Regional: Michigan
NorthEast Regional: Denver

The real ones are:
East Regional: North Dakota (who beat Boston College in the 2nd round)
West Regional: Minnesota (Ohio St. knocked out in 1st round by Cornell)
MidWest Regional: Colorado College (who beat Michigan in the 2nd round)
NorthEast Regional: Denver

The scary thing about this is that all four teams are from the same conference. (The Western Collegiate Hockey...

Griping
It’s cold and rainy. Yuck. And supposed to be that way for the rest of the day. Wonderful.

More Griping
Because of the schedule this past week, with going to church three out of four days (I sing with the choir), and having choir practice on Wednesday, and with all the unpacking, I have barely read anything. What doesn’t help is the way the book is written. It is good, but at times it is hard to stay with it. By the way, that’s “The Knight” by Gene Wolfe.

Congrats!
Not much of a basketball fan, but I always root for Michigan State’s teams. Congrats to Tom Izzo and the boys for making it to the Final Four! ...

As you may have already seen, a navigation bar has been added to the top of the page. This can lead you to the recently updated “About Me” page and to my “Links” page. The “Links” page has sites that I either frequent, or sites of things that I find cool.

All tech support as usual was provided by David. Thanks Zog Industries!

Marcia and I headed down to Ikea to eat breakfast this morning with David and Catherine. “Breakfast, at Ikea?” you ask. Yes. Breakfast. A furniture store with a cafeteria. And they have a breakfast special for $0.99! It is scrambled eggs, potatoes (with green and red peppers), and either bacon or turkey sausage. It’s pretty good. Marcia and I got two of those, along with an apple each, both got sodas, and I got a bagel. Total bill: $6.75. : )

We ended up walking around the store again, since we were just there on Tuesday. We decided to buy some folding chairs, which come in handy for Pizza Night. Which we will be hosting in a month.

After that, I got to finishing putting together the china/liquor...
