Last night Marcia and I watched the movie “Ray”. And I am sure that most know that Jamie Foxx who plays Ray Charles has been nominated (and probably win) the Oscar for Best Actor.

If anything, the movie is enlightening to know the story behind the legend. The fact that he was a heroine addict, then went through rehab, had an illegitment child mothered by one of his back-up singers. It shows just how much being a star puts you on a pedastal, because we the public don’t know what is really happening behind the scenes and in their privates lives.

It is a good movie. It gives you insight to what Charles went through. Even his childhood with the accidental death of his younger brother, and the beginnings of loosing his sight. Jamie Foxx did an excellent job portraying Charles, or at least the little I know of the man. But his mannerisms and speech cadence were on. Then dealing with everything that life throws someone that gains the fame that he did.

Now does his performance deserve an Oscar? Probably. But it is all relative anyway. I only saw one other of the nominees for Best Actor, that being Johnny Depp in “Finding Neverland”. Both are great performances. Though given who and how Foxx portrays, I can see why he is the favorite. (And it’s a shame, because Depp should have won last year over Sean Penn! Of course, that is just my opinion.)
