On Friday night, per usual, we had Pizza Night. It was hosted by Shannon and Ed. But it was a special Pizza Night, since we exchange gifts. We do two rounds.
First is the White Elephant, which was introduced to us last year by John and Kathleen. For those of you that don’t know what this is, is you find something around your house that you don’t really want anymore, wrap it up as a present, and throw it into the pile. (You are not to buy anything “new” for this game.) We all draw numbers, and the person with number 1 picks something from the pile. They open it. Then the next person has the choice of stealing the gift from the first person, or choosing something from the pile. The third person then has the choice of stealing either of the first two gifts, or choosing from the pile. You probably get the idea. Someone offered up two DVD’s as White Elephant gifts. One of them was stolen about four times, that being “The Bourne Identity” starring Matt Damon. But the other was only stolen once. And that was by yours truly. The movie was “The Dark Crystal”. This is a fantasy movie, done by Jim Henson and Frank Oz. To me it was a no brainer. But also luckily for me, David who was picking after me, already had a copy of it. PHEW!!
Next came the Secret Santa Exchange. We all posted our gift idea lists on line at PizzaNight.Net, and try to keep our ideas under $20. Like usual, I put some CD’s I wanted. But UNLIKE other years, my Secret Santa got me TWO of them!! Al DiMeola’s “Land of the Midnight Sun” and Jean-Luc Ponty’s “Cosmic Messenger”.
The pizza was great, which is usually the case. But added to it we had a whole host of Christmas cookies to munch on. And our hosts provided us with River Horse beer; a sampler pack. I just stuck with their Belgian Frostbite, which is an excellent, excellent winter brew. Later on in the evening we sat down for a game of Baldardash. Like usual with our games, it only takes a few rounds before we start getting rather silly. Over the past year there have been a few “answers” that have evolved as very memorable and often times when the silliness starts they resurface. This week we added another to the list. I would rather not repeat it here, but let’s just say it dealt with a type of doctor that women go to, and we were pinpointing the one that attends to Queen Elizabeth.
