I spent a good portion of Saturday watching my 3 month old nephew Ryan yesterday. Given that my sister-in-law Paula and her husband Rick were moving, and my mother-in-law had things she needed to attend to, and Marcia had a migraine, ol’ Gimpy (that’s me) was brought in to pinch hit as babysitter.
I watched him from 8 in the morning to about 4 in the afternoon. I know your priorities change when you have a child. You can’t go out and buy that Porsche Boxster you always wanted, or head out to Vegas for the week between Christmas and New Year’s. But I didn’t realize that even your more immediate priorities change. Like going to the restroom. Ryan seemed to like falling asleep in my arms when I was walking him around the house. And as soon as I would put him down he was start crying. So that kind of takes priority over the more simple things in life. Like going and getting a Coke, or reading a few pages of a book, or like going to the restroom.
Even when he was not crying, if he was awake I was worried about walking away for more then a minute or two. I didn’t want anything to happen to him. (Thankfully he is not strong or coordinated enough to roll over on his stomach.) So I see that when the day comes, I have so much to look forward to. : )
