We had our traditional Friday Pizza Night at Joie’s last night (Uncle Joe’s girlfriend). And per usual when she hosts, pizza was not the only thing on the menu. To go with the typical autumn weather, she had two different soups and homemade bread, along with some pizza. One of the soups was a veggie, that I didn’t have. Not that I don’t like veggie soup, but the other choice was more to my liking. And that was corn chowder. And it was excellent!! I ended up having two bowls of it. Of course she will be handing out the recipe at our next gathering. : )

It was a low attendance crowd. Even Marcia wasn’t there. She has been battling through a migraine the last day and a half. But it was very...

The Inevitable Didn’t Happen
The Boston Red Sox did what no team in Major League Baseball history has done before. They came back and won a seven game series after losing the first three. And they beat the New York Yankees to boot.

WOW!!

Just simply amazing.

(Side note: Only two other teams in the three big sports that do Best-of-Seven’s have done this prior to the Red Sox. The Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals over the Detroit Red Wings, and the New York Islanders in the 1975 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals over the Pittsburgh Penguins.)

Great Album’s Most Don’t Know About
I realized while listening to particular CD’s this...

The Sox Are Still Alive
After the Red Sox performed a small miracle in winning Game 4 of the ALCS via David Ortiz’s 12th inning home, my exact words were, “They are just prolonging the inevitable.” Now following a 14th inning win in Game 5, and a solid performance from Curt Schilling and the boys in Game 6, maybe the inevitable is baseball history in the making? That being the first team in MLB history to win a series after being down 3 games to none.

I still stand by my prediction that the Yankees will win the series. Even after losing three straight, they still look good. It’s not like they have been choking. You take the Red Sox to extra innings two games in a row, you are doing...

Along with the indoor lacrosse fantasy league, I have also gotten into a fantasy Australian Rules Football league. This should be interesting. I don’t know any of the players. But I love the game. What is going to help is that of the 12 guys in it, only one follows the sport closly (being he lives in Australia). He will be picking last every round of the draft.

I have gone through and compiled a spread sheet that will help me draft. I took all the stats we will be using, and wrote the formula to score the stats as it would in our league. Then I sorted it by points. So essentially I will be taking the best player left on my list based on last years stats. No matter what, it should be a lot of fun.

BTW, my team’s...

Marcia and I (as mentioned before) are our nephew Ryan’s Godparents. But that didn’t become official until yesterday at about 1:30 in the afternoon. At a nice little (basically) private ceremony at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Hellertown, PA, Ryan was baptized. Fr. Cliff Bishop was performing the ceremony. Quite appropriate for my sister-in-law Paula and her husband Rick. Fr. Cliff was the priest that married them, and also baptized Rick a few months prior to the wedding.

Marcia and I with Ryan after the ceremony.

After the ceremony, we all gathered at my mother-in-law’s place...

Marcia and I made an early afternoon trip to Bethlehem today. I have always wanted to go to the Moravian Book Shop on Main Street by the Movravian College campus. My co-worker José has always spoken highly of the place, and now I can see why. It has a nice deli, along with another section of food items. Marcia found a honey mustard wasabi pretzel dip that we found a couple of years ago in Williamsburg, Virginia. We had figured after not finding it, we would have to order on-line from the maker.

The book section is quite big. The sci-fi/fantasy section is not that big, but they a lot of the better books, not just the popular items. I ended up getting a copy of China Miéville’s...

We all gathered for Pizza Night at David’s, hosted by him and Catherine. Per usual, it was a good time. Had some Troegs on hand. The Nut Brown Ale was particularily good. The pizza was excellent, but then again usually is. David and Catherine make their own sauce (“When you make the sauce, you make the sauce”), which is their special item that makes the pizza unique.

The highlight of the night was John Stewart’s new book “America (The Book)”....

Today the NHL was supposed to start the 2004-2005 season. That in itself is something to be upset about (factoring out all the REALLY important things in life). It has been officially 4 weeks now since the lock-out was started. But what is sadder than the fact that the lock-out has happened? Both sides haven’t talked!! Or should I say talked to each other. They have been doing plenty of talking; blasting each other in the press. So this isn’t looking good.

The lock-out shortened 1995 season seemed to have hope during the stoppage. The sides were talking. They were sending proposals back and forth. Reasons were a bit different back then, too. It wasn’t just about salary, but about free agency timing, pensions,...

I mentioned before about getting into a fantasy indoor lacrosse, and I posted my attempt at a logo. Well, one of the guys in the league, Joshua Mings, who is a graphic designer did one for another guy. So we talked a bit and decided to see what he could come up with. Oh boy you should see them! I am not going to post them here. They are his work. But here is the link to the web site where he did post them.

Detroit Dragons Logo Concept and Uniforms

Great stuff! The guy is good.

Didn’t too terribly much this weekend. I had to take Marcia’s car in for an oil change and tire rotation Saturday morning. Ended up taking two hours because I was eighth in line. But got to start reading “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell” during that time. The first four chapters were not boring. Good way to start a book. ; ) We then baby-sat for about two hours for my sister-in-law Paula. I almost ended up falling asleep with my nephew Ryan in my arms, while I watched Game 3 of the Astros-Braves series.

Sunday was low-key as well. Church, grocery shopping, watched a movie, then took a nap before heading back to the church. They do a fellowship pot-luck dinner once a month, on the second Sunday....
