The NHL lockout is not only effecting people here in North America, but it is putting players in Europe out of a job. I never thought of this when I would hear players signing with a European team to “stay in shape.” But an article written by Corey Hirsch, a former goalie for the Langnau Tigers of the Swiss ‘A’ League, shows that when these NHL players are coming over and signing, the team has to cut another player. One that makes much less money than the NHL player, and one that REALLY needs the money (unlike the NHL couterpart).

Mind you, some NHL players might not have bags of cash laying around. Especially players that might be married with a few children. But they are much better off financially then those in Europe. Players in Europe makes hardly anything compared to NHL players. And usually aren’t good enough (or have been deemed not good enough) to play in the NHL.
