Goodbye to the Curse?
It appears that it might finally happen. One year after the famed curse reared it’s ugly head again, the Boston Red Sox are one win away from winning their first World Series since 1918. And unlike 1986 (where they were one out away in Game 6), if there are any hiccups, they have a few more games to get it done.
Unless, of course, the St. Louis Cardinals turn the down 3-0 trick on them. ; )
More Underrated Albums
The first one is “Trouble at the Henhouse” by the Tragically Hip. I am not even sure that people outside of Canada even know these guys! I had the pleasure of being introduced to them through a radio station in Windsor, Ontario (just across the river from my hometown of Detroit). I have a few of the Hip’s albums, and this is the best. It’s got cool dynamics, witty lyrics (at times), and just some really cool music. And for those of you that might have seen the movie “Brain Candy” (by the “Kids in the Hall” guys …….. a very funny Canadian sketch show), there is the tune “Butts Wigglin’”. That’s the tune played during the “In my opinion, the drug is ready” sequences.
Another one I just listened to and thought about as being underrated is Tin Machine’s self-titled debut. This was David Bowie’s band in the late 80′s / early 90′s, with Reeves Gabrels and Soupy Sales’ sons, Tony and Hunt. Now it is not a fantastic album, especially by Bowie’s standards. But everyone seems to be of the opinion that it absolutely sucks. And I don’t quite see it that way. Taken on it’s own, it’s a good listen at least with some real stand-out tracks (“Heaven’s in Here” and “Under the God” inparticular).
Another Fantasy League?!
Yes. I joined another one. But this one is hockey. And it’s a simulation league. Therefore, lockout or not, we can have a season. It is run by a fellow Red Wings fan, through his forum and web site (DetroitHockey.Net). It features 20 teams, continuous ownership of players, and has farm teams that play. The way he set it up, he controls the team names (which is best), and in a pretty classy move named them after the Original Six teams, then defunct NHL teams. The guys that run the teams have done this for six seasons now, and after the latest one, a few dropped out. I was on the waiting list, so I have now become the GM of the New York Rangers.
I honestly am just geeked to be in this league, because it should be a big challenge, and very exciting. But on the side there was some disappointment with getting the Rangers. I hate them like the Yankees. And besides, the other team that was available was the Kansas City Scouts, which is my favorite defunct NHL team. But I had second choice. Of course my team is just the Rangers in name, not in spirit. And given what I have seen of the league and how well put together and run it is, I am sure it will be easy to set that aside.
