Bambino who?

If it was a curse, then the 2004 version of the Boston Red Sox are some of the best exorsists in the business. Last night, under a full moon, that was also a full lunar eclipse, the Boston Red Sox finished off the St. Louis Cardinals in 4 games to win the World Series. Their first in 86 years.

As incredible as the Cardinals were during the season, the Red Sox were just too much team for them to handle. Everyone was playing solid. Their starting pitchers didn’t give up a run! They got out to early leads, sometimes extending those leads, and played well enough to hold the Cards off. This is an accomplishment, since the Sox defense was suspect at times, committing 8 errors in just the first two games. And their confidence level has been soaring, after getting super hot after the All-Star Game, and coming back from down 3 games to 0 against the Yankees in the ALCS.

In some respects, I am glad to see this happen. Red Sox fans are some of the most loyal in sports. It is not like a bunch of pseudo fans jumping on the bandwagon. It is pretty much certain that every Red Sox fan alive has never seen the team win the World Series, or wasn’t old enough to remember it. But on the other hand, their fans have been complaining so much about it, in a sadistic way I would like to see them keep waiting. Chicago baseball fans have not seen a World Series winner since 1917 (the year before the Red Sox last won), and they have two teams! Besides that, they haven’t seen one of their teams in the World Series since 1959. Yet they don’t complain as much as Red Sox fans had. So what makes Red Sox fans so special that they can complain so much?

Well, those are just my warped opinions. Regardless of them, I say congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and their fans.
