The World Cup of Hockey is about to start. I will be watching what games I can with great interest. Not only because I like hockey. But this might be the only time we get to see the NHL stars play this year.

This will be the second World Cup that Hockey is doing. The first was in 1996, where the US defeated Canada two games to one in the Finals. The World Cup grew out of the old Canada Cup tournament that used to be held every few years. The idea originally in making it the “World Cup” was to set it up much like Soccer. I just can’t seem to make up my mind with books these days. I think it is because that I have been wanting something a bit different. So I put aside “The Jackal of Nar” (which was interesting, but I just wasn’t getting hooked). Now I am reading “How Few Remain” by Harry Turtledove. It’s an alternate history novel. The “what if?” is the Confederate States won a few battles in 1862 and win the Civil War. They become their own nation, and in 1881, because of the purchase of two territories from Mexico, the Confederacy goes to war with the US again.

Marcia and I watched the TV mini-series (on DVD) “Merlin” yesterday. It stars Sam Neill as Merlin, Miranda Richardson as Queen Mab, and Martin Short as Frick.

I have been made familiar with the legends of King Arthur just recently. I read a book about King Arthur showing up in modern day New York and running for mayor (”Knight Life” by Peter David). Did some research before reading it. This of course concentrated on Merlin himself.
The acting was good. Given who was in the cast, it should have been. The stand...
