Quakertown, PA put on their annual fireworks display, and I got to watch it from the air conditioned comfort of my own home. Yes, you read that correctly. When Marcia and I moved into our new place, we didn’t realize how close we were to the grounds where the fireworks are done. The first 4 of July we watched from the parking lot of our complex (we live in a condo). But this year I was reluctant to go out and watch being on crutches and all. My leg hurts a lot more in this cast when I am standing, which I am sure is normal. So I was sitting in my favorite chair to read a book and noticed that I could see them through the blinds. Now there are some trees that obscured them from time to time, but other than the “grand finale”...

Top seeded Roger Federer held off second seeded, American, Andy Roddick in the Men’s Final at Wimbledon today 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-4. Federer was the reigning champ, and this was his third Grand Slam after winning this year’s Australian Open. Roddick seemed to really control the match at the start, breaking Federer in the third game of the first set. But Federer turned it around and broke Roddick twice early in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Roddick fought back to bring it even at five, but was broke again, then Federer served the set winner. After that, Roddick struggled to get his first serve going again, and Federer’s net game was too much to handle. But if Roddick did prove one thing, he and Federer are truly the...

Since I have been in bed or at least keeping off my feet during my recovery, I have had the chance to knock off quite a few books. It usually takes me at least a week to read one, and that’s if it’s short, or I find a lot of time. But I have finished three books in a matter of a week.

This was the first MacLeod book that I had read. He had two previous space opera like trilogies before this stand along “Newton’s Wake” that sounded interesting, but I have stayed away from them.
