We may have professional hockey after all this coming fall. If you want to call it that. But it is true, the “new” World Hockey Association is planning on starting up on October 29th. I don’t know if it was the intention of the league to try and compete with the NHL, but with the looming lockout, they picked a good time to try either way. They might even draw in a few players.

The WHA’s most recent announcement is that it will have 8 teams (Detroit; Quebec; Toronto; Dallas; Miami; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Hamilton, Ontario). Those teams in major cities have found alternate venues to play their games (Detroit - Silverdome; Dallas - Reunion...
