And this is a good thing! Is Ivan Rodriguez making that much of a difference?

Well, probably yes and no. It is obvious that Pudge has leadership ability. He helped the Florida Marlins upset the Yankees in the World Series this past fall. And it’s not like the Marlins were star-studded. His performance on the field earned him MVP for the NLCS. So not only what he might have been saying in the clubhouse helped, but his play on the diamond was leading by example. So maybe he has the magic touch as a leader. Especially being an experienced catcher with a young, promising pitching staff.

Over the last three years I have taken up reading again. There was a time there where I was too busy with work or other activities to find time to read. Though it was mostly work. Twelve hours days leave you kind of numb. I had pretty much always stuck with sci-fi when reading. I got started with the likes of Arthur C. Clarke and Frank Herbert and David Brin. It was easy enough to find their books and they have always been highly acclaimed. Even so, when I got back into reading, I still had a few of their books laying around that I had not yet read. But when I got a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble for Christmas in 2001, I decided to purposely find a couple of books from authors that I had never heard of before. One of...
